York College of PA - Field Hockey

Katie Fost
Head Coach

York College Assistant Dean for Athletics and Recreation Paul Saikia is proud to announce that Katie Fost has been selected as the ninth field hockey coach in the history of the Spartan program on August 16, 2017. Fost replaces Kaitlyn (Hamilton) Eager who accepted the head coaching job at Franklin & Marshall in early August.

Fost comes to the Spartan program from Bates College as she spent the last two seasons as the assistant coach for the Bobcats. Prior to her time at Bates, Fost was a graduate assistant coach at Goucher College during the 2013 and 2014 campaigns.

Fost is no stranger to the Capital Athletic Conference; she was a four-year letter winner at Salisbury University. Fost was a member of the 2009 NCAA Division III National Championship Sea Gull squad. She was a team captain in 2010 and was a four-year member of the CAC All-Academic squad. Fost was a three-time All-Capital Athletic Conference selection as a midfielder for the Sea Gulls. Salisbury went 71-11 during Fost's four years including a perfect 26-0 in CAC play. The Gulls also went 8-3 in the NCAA Tournament during Fost's time in the maroon and gold including the 2009 national championship.

Saikia was pleased to get the opportunity to hire Fost so close to the season.

"Katie impressed the committee with her passion, preparedness, and enthusiasm," says Saikia. "She also brings us the experience of succeeding in the CAC, having won on the national stage, and having coached in the NEACC, the most prolific conference in NCAA Division III. We believe York College has immense potential in the sport of field hockey and that Coach Fost is an awesome fit to lead us forward."

Fost is happy to get the opportunity to be a head coach at York.

"In my years as an assistant coach, I feel that I have grown as a professional and am prepared to be the steward of my own program," says Fost. "I want to thank Paul Saikia, Dean Joe Merkle, and the search committee for entrusting me with the program. It has been a whirl wind, but I am excited to dig in and get started. I am looking forward to working with our players to create a successful 2017 season."

Fost owns a BA of Science in exercise science from Salisbury while she also owns Masters degrees in athletic administration from Goucher (2015) and applied health physiology from Salisbury (2013). Fost owns a NSCA CSCS (National Strength Coaches Association, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) certification. She also owns a USA Field Hockey Level II Coaching accreditation.
